Managing Blood Pressure Medications Safely
Tips on timing, food interactions, and what to do if you miss a dose of your blood pressure medication.
Consistency is key with blood pressure medications. Take your dose at the same time every day — many patients pair it with brushing teeth or breakfast.
Avoid grapefruit juice with calcium channel blockers, and be aware that NSAIDs like ibuprofen can blunt the effect of ACE inhibitors. If you miss a dose and it's within 6 hours of your usual time, take it; otherwise skip and resume the next day. Never double up.
Monitor your BP at home and bring readings to your medication therapy management visit.
